Pale Moon 31 is the newest desktop browser. The updated browser arrives after Pale Moon 29.4.6 to avoid misunderstanding with the recalled Pale Moon 30.0 release.
The latest version is already available. It may be downloaded via the official project website or using the browser’s support for automatic updates. By selecting Pale Moon > Help > Check for Updates, the check for the latest version is initiated.
We conducted an evaluation of Pale Moon 30.0 in March 2022. The development team recalled it days after its formal release. In Outage post-mortem, and apologies, the principal developer of Pale Moon, Moonchild, presents an explanation for the retraction of the release version, as well as background information on the linked difficulties.
According to the report, one of the developers, Tobin, quit the project while causing mayhem. The exit caused various problems for the browser and its services, including the removal of the current version’s add-ons server.
In the release notes, Moonchild describes what occured in the following manner.
We’re back on track with a new milestone based on UXP and Goanna (v5.1) that includes several enhancements and user-requested features.
Pale Moon version 30.0 is omitted to minimize user confusion. Pale Moon 31.0.0 is the latest version of the browser, which users should install. It provides both security and functional upgrades. Pale Moon now allows for the installation of older Firefox add-ons (next to Pale Moon exclusive add-ons).
