4 ways to stay awake and keep your mind sharp in the afternoon

Published on

Here are a few things you can do to keep your body energized, focused, and your mind sharp while you work in the afternoon.

After a busy morning of answering emails, going to meetings, and negotiating, our bodies start to feel tired around noon, and morale at work tends to drop steadily. Workplaces are full of people who are tired, can’t concentrate, or are already falling asleep.

Here are a few tips that can help your body stay alert, focused, and happy at work in the afternoon.

Don’t eat sweets

We often eat sugary foods when we’re tired because we think the sugar will help us get our energy back quickly. However, foods high in sugar make us sick. Because it makes the body work harder, it makes us feel worse.

If we can, we should try to stay away from sugary foods as much as possible.

So, what will we eat instead?

Look for slow-burning energy sources like snacks that are full of protein, fats (as far as science goes), and complex carbohydrates like wheat and whole grains.

Don’t eat too much for lunch

Many of us feel like we don’t want to do anything in the afternoon after lunch because our bodies are busy digesting the big meal we just ate.

When we eat lunch, the foods we eat take blood away from the brain to help with digestion. This makes us feel tired and lethargic.

When we eat a lot, our digestive systems have to work harder.

Because of this, we shouldn’t eat too much at lunch

The amount of energy in a big sandwich or a bowl of noodles is more than what our bodies need. Instead, try to eat breakfast and pack a lunch that will give you all the energy you need and keep you feeling full for longer.

Take a short break in the middle of the day

Too many of us are slaves to our jobs. When the office is busy, it’s even more important to take a short break for lunch.

Get away from the computer that’s sitting in front of you. Get on your feet and do some easy exercises. Exercise will give you more energy by making your muscles stronger, boosting your mood, and giving you more confidence. You’ll be especially productive in the afternoon if you work out. instead of spending the afternoon at a desk.

Drink some tea or coffee

People say that the caffeine in coffee is addictive, so we should try to stay away from it as much as possible. Even just one cup seems to be good for your health and improve your physical performance. For example, it can make you smarter and less likely to get Alzheimer’s or diabetes.

So having a cup of coffee after lunch can help you feel like yourself again.

But you should be careful not to drink coffee in the afternoon because it might make it hard for you to sleep at night.
