Arteater: create GIFs from hand drawn drawings for free

Create GIFs from hand drawn drawings using Arteater, a free service. To create GIFs, you must photograph your drawings and upload them to the website.

The drawings must be done using particular templates available online. Arteater gives drawing templates that are classified as Beginners, Intermediates, and Advanced based on the amount of frames and other factors.

Each template features 4 corner markers and multiple boxes (loops) for sketching animation frames. Please download and print the templates to draw the animation frames in. After that, you need to snap a photo of the paper on a well-lit surface and send it to Arteater. You may apply various effects to the GIFs during creation. Automatically make and provide a completed GIF in no time.

How to use Arteater

  • Go to Arteater and select the template you want to use for the GIF. The link is near the conclusion of the article.

  • Select the template you want to use and click ‘Print’ to download it in PDF format.
  • Draw your animation frames in the appropriate boxes. Make sure the drawing doesn’t cross any borders. I used a 9 Loop Template.
  • Photograph the drawing on a level surface in a well-lit environment. It should be a JPG or PNG.
  • Upload the drawing to Arteater’s Uploader section and add any special effects.
  • Arteater will analyze your hand drawn drawing and generate a GIF with the desired special effects (if any).
  • Click Download to save the GIF. Here is the GIF I generated on Arteater using the given template.
