This is software used to create 2D animations. It is based on the software “Toonz,” which was created by Digital Video S.p.A. in Italy, modified by Studio Ghibli, and used by the studio for many years to create its works. OpenToonz is launched by Dwango in collaboration with Digital Video and Studio Ghibli.
This software is free for anyone to use, regardless of whether their intentions are commercial or not.
This is available as open source, allowing users to freely modify its source code.
We intend to create a new platform for linking academic research with commercial animation production.
Toonz is a program for 2D animation. Currently, Dwango manages the core application as open-source software under the name OpenToonz.
