How to use eSIM on iPhone 13?

With smartphone features evolving at a breakneck speed each year, manufacturers are pursuing smaller, more efficient components. One such advancement is the introduction of the newest eSIM technology in SIM card technology. It is a more sophisticated version of the standard SIM, or Subscriber Identity Module. As expected, one of the benefits is that it takes up less actual phone space. Numerous smartphones and smart devices, including the current iPhone 13 series, support eSIMs.

For the uninitiated, an eSIM is a virtual SIM card that enables you to activate a carrier’s cellular plan without the need for a real SIM card. Apple’s newest iPhone 13 Series supports Dual SIM, either with two active eSIMs or with a nano-SIM and an eSIM. While the iPhone 12 Series, iPhone 11 Series, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR all support dual SIM with a nano-SIM and an eSIM, the iPhone 12 Series, iPhone 11 Series, and iPhone XR all feature a single SIM with a nano-SIM.

Once enabled, the dual-sim feature is extremely useful because it enables you to use one number for business and another for personal calls, add a local data plan when traveling outside the country without switching SIM card modules, and last but not least, subscribe to two distinct voice and data plans.

How to enable eSIM cellular plan

For example, you can utilize two eSIMs (only two active at a time) or one physical nano-SIM and one eSIM for multiple cellular subscriptions.

Adding a new eSIM on an iPhone 13

To activate a fresh eSIM, manually enter your plan details. Steps to manually input your plan information:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Select Cellular or Mobile Data.
  • Then choose Add Cellular Plan.
  • Finally, hit Enter Details Manually at the iPhone 13’s bottom.

You can keep many eSIMs on your iPhone, but only one may be used at a time. However, if your phone has numerous eSIMs, you may quickly swap between them.

That:

  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap either Cellular or Mobile Data.
  • And then tap the plan you want to use.
  • Finally, tap Turn On This Line.

Label to facilitate identification

After activating the second plan, label it for easy identification. For example, you may identify one plan Personal/Home and the other Business, or you can create your own labels.

These labels will be used to determine which phone number to use to make or receive calls and messages, to select a number for cellular data, and to assign a number to your contacts.

Labels are adjustable, and if you ever need to alter the labels given to a number, you may do so by going to Settings, tapping Cellular or Mobile Data, and then tapping the number whose label you need to change. Then, hit Cellular Plan Label and either input a new label or pick an existing one.

Additionally, you may choose a default number to use when you call or send a text message to someone who is not in your Contacts. Additionally, iOS 13 or later allows you to choose which cellular plans you use for iMessage and FaceTime. Fortunately, iOS 13 and subsequent operating systems enable you to select one or both numbers.

On this page, you may choose a default phone number or provide a phone number that will be used only for cellular data. Your alternate phone number will serve as your default. Allow Cellular Data Switching enables your iPhone 13 to access cellular data from both plans simultaneously, subject to coverage and availability.

We strongly advise you to turn it on!

Thus, this is essentially how Dual SIMs on iPhones work. Apple has been hesitant to give dual SIM slots for years, but with the arrival of eSIMs, customers of the newest Apple iPhone may now enjoy dual SIM functionality.
