How to use AirDrop on a Mac

Anyone with a Mac, iPhone, or iPad will confirm that AirDrop is a lifesaver. With Apple’s wireless file sharing, sharing is now frictionless.

You don’t have to figure out how to email huge things (like films) or upload anything to a cloud service.

Apple uses AirDrop to build a peer-to-peer Wi-Fi connection between two devices. These gadgets don’t need to be connected to the internet to interact.

USE AIRDROP TO

  • Use a 2012 or later Mac running macOS Yosemite or later.
  • Allow for 30 feet between the two devices, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled.

MAC SHARE WITH AIRDROP

  • Open a Finder window and pick AirDrop from the sidebar’s Favorites. You may also pick AirDrop from the Go menu on your Mac.
  • The AirDrop screen shows nearby receivers. Drag and drop the file you wish to distribute onto the recipient.
  • The Mac, iPhone, or iPad user will be notified and can accept or reject the download (s).

HOW TO LIMIT AIRDROP PARTNERS

  • Click the “Allow me to be discovered by” text in the AirDrop window.
  • You may opt to accept requests from everyone, contacts only, or no one. You must have the sender’s email address or phone number in the receiving device’s contacts app if you want to use AirDrop just with your own contacts.
  • You may also access these options by opening Control Center and choosing the AirDrop section.

CAN I SHARE AIRDROP?

AirDrop lets you share a number of files, including:

  • mp3
  • Documents
  • Maps
  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Websites

There is no file size restriction while utilizing AirDrop, however big transfers may take several minutes to finish.
